At Cannon Hill Smiles we strongly believe that preventative care is the foundation of a healthy mouth and as such encourage patients to come see us at least every 6 months for a comprehensive check-up, cleaning and if required fissure sealants, X-rays and fluoride treatment.
We recommend Check-up appointments to detect problems before they cause much bigger issues which can be potentially painful and debilitating. For instance, precursors of gum disease, such as bleeding and bad breath, identified and treated early can avoid future pain and loss of teeth. Likewise, cavities identified and treated early can avoid future pain, need of root canal treatment or extractions.
At these Check-up visits our team at Cannon Hill Smiles will answer any questions and if required demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques. Following these Check-up appointments, and if required, a detailed treatment plan with associated costs will be given to our patients.
Root canal treatments are generally performed to avoid the need for extractions and save your tooth. There is a misconception that root canals are painful. However, like other dental treatment, pain can be eliminated and discomfort minimized through gentle care by well trained dentist and use of modern equipment and treatment methods.
Root canals usually require at least 3 appointments in order to remove the nerve inside the tooth, shape and clean the canals and finally fill the canals. Following root canal treatment our dentists may also recommend that a crown is placed over the tooth to prevent any future infection and to avoid the tooth splitting and breaking. This is a basic overview of what can be a complex process. However, our dentists at Cannon Hill Smiles will keep you comfortable and informed all the way and, if required, will consult specialists to ensure you receive the best possible outcome.
Dental crowns are recommended when a tooth has cracks or has lost a significant amount of tooth structure or following root canal treatment. Crowns can be thought of as a cap or covering that encloses a weakened tooth thereby prolonging its life.
Generally, crowns are prepared and inserted over two appointments. During the initial appointment the tooth is prepared and a mould and colour match done. The mould is then sent to a lab who manufactures the crown. Crowns can be made using a wide range of materials ranging from tooth coloured porcelain to gold alloys. Our dentists at Cannon Hill Smiles will discuss the materials available with you and recommend one to suit your circumstance the best. During the time the lab is constructing your crown a temporary crown is in place. At Cannon Hill Smiles we only use Australian based labs ensuring that quality, tested and safe materials are used to construct your crown
Dental veneers are used to change the shape, alignment and/or colour of frontal teeth. At Cannon Hill Smiles, we welcome patients that have cosmetic concerns regarding their teeth and will guide you through the variety of options available and costs involved to help you achieve your ideal smile.
Wisdom teeth generally cause problems during the late teenage years and early twenties but can also become problematic later on in life. Often they can erupt through and not cause any problems at all. However, wisdom teeth can become impacted and cause infection, discomfort and pain. Our dentists at Cannon Hill Smiles will recommend wisdom teeth removal if they are impacted, causing an infection or damaging adjacent teeth and jaw structures.
At Cannon Hills Smiles we are fortunate to have dentists that can safely and painlessly remove these wisdom teeth.
Dentures are another option to replace missing teeth and are constructed over several appointments. They are a cost effective way to replace one or all of your missing teeth. Dentures can be removed from the mouth and are not anchored or fixed inside the mouth. They are notoriously difficult to adapt to and patient’s experiences differ on how comfortable dentures feel. Some patients adapt very well while others don’t respond as well. For these later patients our team at Cannon Hill Smiles may advise other options such as implants or bridges.
There are times when it is necessary to remove a tooth. At Cannon Hill Smiles we always strive to save teeth and offer patients a variety of options. However, if teeth do need to be removed we will ensure you are as comfortable as possible during the procedure. There are several means to replace missing teeth and that include implants, bridges or dentures.
The need for dental fillings arises from having dental cavities or broken teeth. Cavities are generally the end result of infrequent brushing and flossing as well as unhealthy diet choices such as sugary foods and drinks. At Cannon Hill Smiles we use tooth coloured fillings which bond to the tooth and blend in seamlessly with the surrounding teeth giving an excellent aesthetic outcome. Most times patients cannot tell there is a filling placed at all!
Fillings can also be placed to restore broken or chipped teeth. The dentists at Cannon Hill Smiles are trained to place quality fillings and make you feel as pain free and comfortable as possible during the procedure. We strive to make every dental appointment a positive experience for our patients.
Dental pain can be unbearable and debilitating. Our team at Cannon Hill Smiles strive to ensure toothache or emergency patients are seen in a timely manner. We appreciate that our patients have busy schedules and as such open after hours on most days and also Saturdays.
Having a missing tooth or teeth can be unsightly and cause major chewing difficulties. There are several options available to replace missing teeth including implants, bridges or dentures. At Cannon Hill Smiles our team will discuss the costs, advantages and disadvantages of each option with you to come up with a tailored treatment plan.
Dental implants are perhaps the healthiest and most long lasting tooth replacement option available today. Patients tend to prefer a Dental implant over the other options because it is the option that most resembles and acts like a natural tooth.
A dental implant is essentially a titanium rod that fuses with your jaw in a process called osseointegration. A missing tooth can severely weaken your facial muscles and lead to a drooping look which can increase the appearance of ageing. A dental implant will replace a missing tooth or several missing teeth restoring your natural look. Dental implants are a relatively new but proven area of dentistry and are fixed in place with no need to remove them.
The first step towards a dental implant is to organize a consultation appointment where we will discuss all your options, costs and check if you are a suitable candidate. X-rays may also be taken at this visit. The process from having a missing tooth/teeth to having a full set of teeth again can be a long journey. However, at the end of that journey we find that patients are extremely satisfied and grateful that they can speak and eat with confidence.
A dental bridge is another fixed option to replace a missing tooth or missing teeth. Bridges are basically one or more prosthetic porcelain teeth that are supported by one or more adjacent dental crowns. The process involved is akin to that used in the construction of a dental crown. At Cannon Hill Smiles we only use Australian dental labs ensuring quality materials and excellent workmanship.
Orthodontic treatment or braces may be required to correct the alignment of teeth. At Cannon Hill Smiles our team will advise if this treatment is necessary during your regular check-ups or consultation appointments.
At Cannon Hill Smiles, we strongly believe that your oral health contributes to your overall health.
